One problem i constantly deal with is that every time I finish something really stressful (ex: exams ugh) I always feel the need to 'reward' my hard work with food. The terrible thing is that I will binge like crazy (whole box of cereal or several baked goods) and its just so hard to not want to gratify myself in this way. Do you have any advice for stopping this? What are some other ways of rewarding myself that don't involve food? What methods have worked for you?

I know JUST what you mean, and I have often fallen prey to the same kind of disruptive thinking.

To answer your question: I’m sure there are other ways to reward yourself (hey, followers, please chime in right about here?), but for me, the only thing which seems to work is realizing that skinny is its own reward.  The joy I get from eating less, and knowing that I will see a smaller number on the scale because of it, is what kept me going.  Frankly, that awesome feeling of “I did it!  I ate well and exercised today!” is the only kind of reward which also made my heart happy.

I feel like I’m blabbering like an idiot here.  Does any of this make sense?

I guess what I’m trying to say is that the satisfaction; the deep, deep, life-altering satisfaction; of being able to cast away the shame of overweight and instead embrace the glory of The Real (Skinny) You … that is the “reward” that really satisfies.  In other words: you are going to be happy in one of two ways:

  1. Happy that you got to eat that, or
  2. Happy that you didn’t.

Either way makes you happy for a moment.  Only one makes you happy into the future.

Bought your book 3 days ago, knowing even that it's going on 'sale' here soon but having your tumblr encourage me on, I was inspired to get started on my journey towards my sexiest me as soon as I could manage. Well I'm on what is my third time through your words and I can say that it's been so ridiculously encouraging. Thank you for such honest and relatable telling of your story. I have so much faith in my own abilities now that I'm sure even stalls won't lead me to setbacks. Thank you Alyssa

OMG OMG OMG omg … This is so beautiful that it hurts.  I wish I could tell you how wonderful such encouraging words are to me!!! <333  You are obviously a lovely person and I really, really hope you meet your goals and learn how to awake to happiness each day!

Just one (no, make that two) comments:

(1) please, if you want to, send me a note off anon so I can know who to start following as you begin to transform yourself -)

(2) sorry if this sounds selfish, but not that many people have left reviews like this on Amazon (or wherever you found my book).  Would you please consider taking a moment to say the same thing so people other than my tumblr followers will see it?  TYVM and if you don’t want to, NP.

How I Feel About Editing

asweetdream361:

I have a hate/hateful/sparingly-love relationship with editing. Well, actually, I’ve been editing the same passage for weeks, and it’s killing me- so I’m convincing myself to keep going with this list.

Con. It bores me.

Pro. It makes my writing better.

Con. It makes me cringe- frequently.

Pro. It makes my writing better.

Con. It annoys me.

Pro. It makes my writing better.

Obviously the pros outweigh the cons, here…

Don’t they?

My book, my 80,000-word book, had 14 drafts.  And I still find things I wish I would have written differently.

Imgoing to be in a commercial in a week and I want to look amazing. What do you advise? With uni I have so many assignments that I can only workout so much.. And my diet is really healthy. Just wondering xx

You eat well and work out.  That means you already look amazing!  And just in case it doesn’t mean that, there’s nothing that can be done in only a week.

No, that’s not true.  You can get to the set next week full of confidence that you are the best version of you that you can currently be.  THAT will look amazing.
